Species: Roborovski
Gender: Female
Estimated age: 8 months
Likes: wheel time 24/7, dashing around the cage to confuse you, food
Dislikes: rodipet herbs
Snuffles is a sleepy and fluffy baby. She is good natured and relatively docile compared to other Roborovskis. While her sisters used to wreak havoc in the cage, she always managed to find a cozy little spot amidst the chaos for her naps (usually behind the wheel, and sometimes right smack in the midst of the chaos). She is not easily fazed or bothered by external stimulus and never retaliated when her sisters (literally) stepped on her to get to their desired spot in the hideout/ cage. She allows gentle pats when she is half-awake after her naps!
While she enjoys running marathons on her wheel, please note that a 21cm (or max 25cm) wheel will suffice for her as she is unable to control a 27cm or 30cm wheel. Also, in spite of her active lifestyle, Snuffles is a little pudgy (don’t tell her I said this…) at the high end of the healthy weight range and her new family should watch her diet to ensure that she doesn’t overeat :-)
Things to note when adopting roborovskis:
1. Adopters should make sure to get a glass tank/bin cage/acrylic cage that does not have bars as roborovski hamsters are smaller and can squeeze through the gaps.
2. 1/3 of the cage should be covered with sand as roborovski hamsters tend to become excessively ‘greasy’ when an appropriately sized sand area is not given.
3. A wheel that is minimally 21cm should still be provided even if they are smaller in size as compared to dwarf hamsters.
4. They are fast and might not be suitable for children. Some may also nip/bite.
5. Taming is not guaranteed, but possible with lots of patience, time and love!
