On behalf of all the hamsters under the HSS foster care programme, the following groups of hamsters would like to say THANK YOU for your kind donation!

1. Hamsters under long-term foster care

While the cute faces you see in our adoption gallery form the majority of our fosters, we have some permanent residents at HSS as not all hamsters that come to HSS are successfully re-homed. Some of them spend the rest of their lives under long-term foster care with us as they suffer from incurable illnesses. Most of these hamsters are also under long-term painkillers and antibiotics to help manage the pain they experience. Click here to learn more about them!

Meet Vivian! Vivian was used as breeding stock by a backyard breeder and unfortunately developed a mammary tumour. She underwent surgery to remove her mammary and was also spayed. She has been thriving under her fosteror’s care and is super “manja” (affectionate)! She will remain under long-term foster care and your financial donations and donations in-kind help to support her daily upkeep (and that of multiple other hamsters under long-term foster care.)

2. Hamsters that require medical attention

HSS is committed to giving every hamster a shot at a healthy life and we see our fosters through common illnesses such as mite infections to serious conditions such as pyometra (womb or uterus infection). Vet bills continue to be our biggest expense because of the quality medical care our fosters are assured of. Many of our hamsters recover from their infections/ illnesses and go on to live happy and fulfilling lives!

3. Mommy hamsters (and their little ones!)

Occasionally, HSS welcomes mommy hamsters (which includes pregnant hamsters and hamsters who have already given birth and are nursing their pups!) into the foster programme. We see these hammoms through their pregnancy, labour and until their pups are fully weaned!

Financial donations go towards purchasing kitten milk to hand feed pups (in unfortunate scenarios where the hammom refuses to nurse) and donations in-kind are greatly appreciated by the playful pups!

4. Hamsters that have to be rescued from appalling conditions at odd hours of the night

Some of our rescues are conducted in the wee hours of the morning as we try to get the hamster(s) to a safe environment as soon as possible. Any delays could lead to fights, worsening of medical conditions and even death. Your donation goes towards our volunteers’ transport fees for urgent rescues.
