Orzo is a darling hamster. Originally abandoned with his 9 siblings and dad in one cage, he has grown from a scrawny little baby to a big hunk. He is so sweet and easily bribed with treats. He is very well behaved, very gentle and has never bitten his fosterer. He loves nuts (all, but especially pine nuts and hazelnuts) and stuffing his face with seed mix, making him the chonky little man you see today. He loves to lick every last speck of nut from your fingers. If you walk up to the cage when he is awake, he will climb to the edge of the cage, stand on his hind legs and beg for food. Among many things, he loves whimzees, dried tofu, fresh fruit and vegetables. He also likes to build up stashes in his hideouts.

Orzo can get a little overwhelmed with free roaming so just make sure to watch him and return him to his cage when he is done. He doesn’t mind being held, initially he will sit still and then he wants to explore! He loves to dig tunnels in his bedding, so it would be good to give a thick layer of bedding. Orzo will spend his time running between his wheel and flying saucer, and digging in the sand.

He is not toilet trained and loves to pee and poop on his wheel, and then run on it. Nasty boy, I know. So potential adopters need to be aware of this and clean it daily to avoid ammonia burns. Orzo also CANNOT have a barred cage as he will climb the walls for attention/snacks. He also does not like to be woken up/disturbed from his beauty sleep. He is also not a huge fan of being grabbed, but if you leave a treat on your palm I can guarantee he will climb on. Also note that sudden movements and loud noises do spook him, and why would you want to upset this darling?
