Species: Roborovski
Gender: Female
Est Age: 3 months
Likes: Sleeping in her sand bath, her wheeeeeeeel
Dislikes: Sudden movements, grabbing, loud noises, lab blocks
Tiny 20g Maple is very timid by nature so adopters will have to be extremely patient and gentle with her. She dashes away like a thief when people approach her cage. Her favourite spot to sleep at is in her sand bath, but she will only do so if a (base-less) hideout is placed in it!
She runs out excitedly when her food bowl is refilled, but will only approach it cautiously once she has made sure that no one is lurking around her cage. As she absolutely HATES lab blocks, a good seed mix with appropriate protein levels should be given to her.
Maple loves sprinting on her wheel once the lights are out. She runs and runs and runs, it never seems to end. If her future adopters plan on keeping her in their bedroom, make sure to invest in a high-quality silent wheel especially if you are light sleepers!
Things to note when adopting roborovskis:
1. Adopters should make sure to get a glass tank/bin cage/acrylic cage that does not have bars as roborovski hamsters are smaller and can squeeze through the gaps.
2. 1/3 of the cage should be covered with sand as roborovski hamsters tend to become excessively ‘greasy’ when an appropriately sized sand area is not given.
3. A wheel that is minimally 21cm should still be provided even if they are smaller in size as compared to dwarf hamsters.
4. They are fast and might not be suitable for children. Some may also nip/bite.
5. Taming is not guaranteed, but possible with lots of patience, time and love!
