Species: Syrian
Estimated Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Likes: Freeze-dried tofu!!!, flax sprays
Dislikes: Mealworms, being handled :-(
Fosterer’s Instagram account: @butternotmargarine
You will always find Archie sleeping throughout the day. When he’s not sleeping, he’s going around his cage to forage for food. He has definitely grown in size since coming under foster care. He has been put on a nutritious diet of Fatpouches seed mix, and given lots of sprays and treats to munch on! Now that he finally has an appropriately-sized wheel, he is able to run comfortably without an arched back.
Archie loves to sleep in cooling ceramic hideouts so his future adopters should prepare several syrian-sized ones for him to doze in! He is not potty-trained so his future adopter will have to be diligent in spot-cleaning as he has a tendency to pee in the hideout that he sleeps in and often smells like pee :-/
He was named Archie as his fosterer hopes that he’ll one day be brave! While he does not bite or act aggressively, he does not particularly enjoy being held and this can be seen through his squirms and wriggles. Perhaps daily playpen time and interaction will help strengthen the bond and his trust in you! Archie LOVES tofu and it’s the only treat that he’ll willingly take them from your hands so keep that in mind if you want to speed up the taming process :-)
Will you be Archie’s forever Valentine?
Requirements
Cage: Unbarred cage of at least 4,000 sq cm (he’s currently in a 5,000 sq cm acrylic) + weighted lid that fully covers the entire cage (this is very important as Syrian hamsters are notorious escape artists)
Wheel: At least 27cm
Bedding: Oxbow paper bedding
Sand: Wittemolen/Versele Laga chinchilla sand
Food: Currently being fed a combination of Fatpouches Ultimate and Standard mixes (preferred but not required, Bunny Nature Hamster Expert works too!)
Enrichment: Lots of bedding to burrow in and ceramic hideouts (important!!!), sprays and forage will be great too as he loves digging around his cage
