Poppy is a sweet, reformed girl. Once a hammie who would attack any hands that entered her enclosure, she has undergone a 180 transformation into an extremely tolerant girl who does not mind being picked up and smothered in kisses. Poppy makes an excellent lap hamster, her… significant surface area means that you will have lots to pat.
Poppy only sleeps one way – and it is upside down. Her fosterer now has a whole album dedicated to pictures of Poppy laying upside down, enjoying life (as a proper hamster should).
Poppy is also extremely food motivated girl. She’s learnt that her fosterer calling her name = food and will happily pop (haha) her head out of her hideout to see what food you have to offer her majesty. As such, Poppy would very much enjoy it if adopters could provide her with a variety of sprays as well as a bowl of fresh foods daily, in addition to her seed mix to keep her stomach filled and happy. You’ll find yourself enjoying her daily antics as she wrestles with her sprays to nibble at them heartily or when she sticks her head into her cardboard ball to find that oh no, she’s gotten her head stuck and must now commence the humiliating ritual of vigorously shaking her behind to get herself free. (She has the last laugh though, when she emerges victorious with her sunflower seed.)
She’s not always the brightest ham. Once, her fosterer watched for 2 minutes as she tried to carry her whimzee (far too big for the opening of her hideout) into it, to no avail till she finally gave up and left the whimzee outside, chewing it with half her body hanging out of her hideout. She tries, okay?
Adopters will have to note that Poppy is still not toilet-trained, despite her fosterer’s best efforts, her majesty Poppy persists in peeing everywhere there isn’t sand. You’ll have to check behind her wheel and in any corners of the cage for her pee. She also much prefers drinking from her water bowl instead of her water bottle. However, her fosterer still recommends that adopters provide both so that she has the luxury of choice.
If you’re looking for a sweet girl who will entertain you with her ridiculous antics, Poppy’s the one for you! And, unlike her whimzee, Poppy will fit right in your heart.
