Peaches is a very fast and energetic robo hamster. The wheel is his favourite spot so it is not suprising to find him spend most of his time running on it. As he is extremely fast, Peaches sometimes has difficulty controlling his speed on the wheel. As a result he tends to spin too fast and fly out. It is important to monitor this and provide him a wheel with enough grip so he does not hurt himself.
It’s also essential to include a large sand bath in his cage. Because he is a robo hamster, his fur gets oily quite often. A large sand area will help to remedy this. The sand bath is also Peaches’s second favourite hangout spot. It is entertaining to watch him bathe, dig, eat and sleep in it.
Like other roboroski hamsters, Peaches is skittish by nature and may need some time to warm up to his adopter. This process may take a long time hence his adopters need to be extremely patient and determined. But they also need to be mentally prepared in the event that he may never be able to fully open up.
Despite this, it will still fun be to observe Peaches and discover his silly antics (eg. sleeping upside down in his sand etc.)
Are you the one for tiny Peaches?
Things to note when adopting roborovskis:
1. Adopters should make sure to get a glass tank/bin cage/acrylic cage that does not have bars as roborovski hamsters are smaller and can squeeze through the gaps.
2. 1/3 of the cage should be covered with sand as roborovski hamsters tend to become excessively ‘greasy’ when an appropriately sized sand area is not given.
3. A wheel that is minimally 21cm should still be provided even if they are smaller in size as compared to dwarf hamsters.
To ensure Peaches feels more secure in his cage, it is recommended to provide him plenty of hideouts and tunnels where he can use to move about his cage.
