Species: Hybrid Dwarf
Gender: Female
Estimated age: 8 months
Likes: sleeping on her back (like a hooman), food refills, licking the sides of her cage when she hears the food bowl to get attention, burrowing, napping in her favourite yellow water bottle holder/ hideout (look at her pictures!), whimzees
Dislikes: dieting, being taken out in her carrier, not being able to see what is going on (e.g. pats from above her head), exercise (unless it’s a dash to the food bowl, if so, she is the undisputed winner), being led on (i.e. sounds that turn out not to be food refills)
Omu was named after Omurice as she was (extremely) overweight and when she pancaked, she looked exactly like the omelette in the popular Japanese dish!
Omu has been put on a strict diet since entering foster care and has successfully shed the extra grams! She has become (a little) more active and can now be bribed to run on her wheel (her record is 12 seconds, thereafter she hops off the wheel to hunt for a treat to reward herself for her hard work…). Larger sized hideouts are ideal for our chonky little bean to feel comfortable.
Omu has lots of room in her heart to welcome kind hooman friends! She has drastically improved in terms of taming and is comfortable with interaction outside her cage and will happily sploot on your palm. She also loves attention and likes to bite and toys to get your attention when she wants to be let out of her cage to spend some time with you! She also perks up at the slightest sound and is happy to both get and give attention.
She is relatively cage territorial and thus, her new family will find it much easier to interact with her by lifting her out of the cage via a hideout/ cup. Once on your palm, she will happily feast on her treats and doesn’t fidget like some hammos! Also, due to her mochi-like size, patting her is a dream (can you just imagine gently squeezing a mochi hehe).
Omu is easily contented and a very grateful hammo (any food or snack is a gift from above). She has made tremendous progress in terms of opening up and slimming down! Her fosteror is confident that she will continue to open up in a supportive and loving environment!
Please note:
Omu has a patch of thinning fur on the underside of her bottom right thigh and she tends to nip at it when she is feeling stressed. The fur has mostly grown out but her new family needs to keep an eye out for any signs of anxiety and monitor her fur growth. She would do best in a home with minimal stressors.
Will you be the one to show Omu the kinder side of life? :-)
