Species: Dwarf
Estimated age: unknown
Gender: Male
Likes: mealworms, dried tofu, running & burrowing
Dislikes: being held
Einstein is a very fast runner. He refused to be held when he first came to the forster's house. Over a 2 weeks period he slowly became accustomed to light touches and strokes. The best time to hold him for a few seconds would be when he is still in his woken up state as he is still groggy and does not know what is happening. His fosterer did this on a daily basis to conduct physical checks to ensure that he is healthy and doing well. You will have a hard time trying to catch him while he is awake as he sprints upon the presence of a hand.
It is not advisable to take him out of the cage for playtime as he bolts/jumps from your hand and you may lose him in the house easily.
You will know he is annoyed as he nips you when he does not want to be touched. Because of his speedy feet, it is good fun to watch him run around the cage by himself. At times it seems like he is playing catching with his shadow. Unlike most hamsters who are motivated by food, Einstein is motivated by play and will benefit from a cage filled with climbing toys and lots of bedding for burrowing.
Requirements: standard HSS requirements. Climbing toys, deeper bedding for burrowing. He is currently on Rodipet Dwarf Junior and a mixture of organic treats from FatPouches.
