Calliope (a.k.a Ope, pronounced "oh-pi") was kept with other hamsters for most of her life, and has hence suffered battle wounds from that time. She has a few bare spots on the back of the neck from fights with her housemates. Despite her rough start, she's a very sweet and demure lady. She isn't scared of human hands and can be picked up without fuss, but will be startled if approached too quickly. Treat Calliope like a fancy dame, with poise and patience.
Calliope is the gentlest lady you'll ever meet. Her fur and paws are as soft as clouds, and she steps so lightly that you'd think she's a ballerina. She tends to be more cautious when taken out of her cage, and needs a patient aide as she warms up to her surroundings. Calliope prefers a slower pace of life, and gets a little frazzled if she's moved too quickly - she tends to sprawl out and grab on for dear life to your hand if she's whisked around! To save her dignity, she requests for a calm and collected pair of hands when handled.
One of Calliope's loves is burrowing. She won't be satisfied until she has established tunnels to each one of her hideouts and to her food bowl! As such, she must have a thick layer of bedding in her new home for her to fully indulge in her greatest joy in life. She even likes to fill her food bowl with bedding!
Calliope is in the process of being toilet-trained, but does her business like a proper lady in only one spot of her cage. Regardless, if you spot-clean daily, her habit shouldn't be much of an issue.
Will you be the one to cater to this pretty lady's every whim and fancy?
