If you think this girl with the dragging hind legs is “poor handicapped little one,” well, think again. Or she will make you think again. Because that’s not how she sees herself.

Amaretti (or Ama for short) is a bursting ball of energy who doesn’t even know her legs function differently from the others.

Despite her sad start of the earlier life with an abandonment by the previous owner, Ama is a sweet girl who would climb up your hand as you put it inside her tank. She knows it’s the way out to the free roaming which she absolutely loves. She’s not funny about food and appreciates both good seed mix and fresh food. (Her fosterer gives her fresh food daily and she takes whatever she wants to finish without hoarding)

She knows life is precious and short, and will not be sitting still for long. Are you a perfectionist in setting up your ham’s habitat with perfect layers of beddings with nice toppers for perfect IG shots? Unlucky for you, Ama is a professional house destroyer. She will explore the bedding as if looking for a lost treasure, and the next moment the picture perfect setting will be gone with an adorably excited little head popping out of everywhere. She might also get bored and starts nibbling the logs at 9am

In the morning. When she runs, it’s almost like she’s a little ebi tempura waddling on the floor. Or a landed seal pup. Trust me…you will not be bored loving with this little psycho.

As adorable and exciting she could be as your new family member, she does have a list of requirements due to her condition. If you are the perfect buddy to walk (or even waddle) along her journey, please read the set of requirements below before applying. These are strictly necessary for her safety and health, which she knows you care, too! :)

She has seen the vet for checks and her dragging legs have muscle issues that don’t allow her to move normally, but they do have sensation (not paralyzed) with the bowel functioning perfectly well. Her future adopter must take note, however, that checks should be done periodically and the condition may change over time.

Amaretti, like the Italian sweet biscuit, will be the sweetest girl you‘ve ever met. Not only she will give you a sugar high with the prettiest beady eyes and chaotic personality, you will see how beautiful this little soul is every time she shows you her physical difference won’t hold her back at all. What makes her different, makes her beautiful.

Will you be the lifetime buddy of this (a little chaotic) explorer?

Requirements

Diet: Must be aware that she should not be obese at all time due to her hind leg condition. Adjust treats and food with high fat content so her weak legs don’t have to carry too much weight.

Wheel: Must be completely gap-free and tracks (bumps) free as she drags her hind legs. She’s currently using the silent wheel by Niteangel and loves running on it. Potential adopter must submit the actual picture of the wheel.

Tank:  No barred cage as she is a climber and will fall. She is a highly energetic girl hence 100*50cm and above will be preferred. Platforms can be considered but adopter must be careful not to create gaps her legs may be trapped in.

Bedding: She will enjoy burrowing and digging for fun although won’t really stay underground. Deep bedding will be preferred for her entertainment. Currently her tank has aspen chips, birch chips, hay and FP bedding toppers and various leaves.

Other enrichment: all enrichment must be placed in the tank with her condition in mind. Anything that may trap her hind legs should be avoided to prevent potential injury. As of now at the fosterer’s, she’s fine with sand box, cork and birth logs and coco peat digging area.
