Mikan was rescued extremely overweight and with an eye infection. Now, he is steadily on his way to a healthy weight, though he is a big fan of cheat days! Mikan's left eye is also permanently shrunk due to the long-term infection in his eye. His family must closely watch his left eye for signs of redness to determine if the eye is irritating him again. For now, Mikan lives life as per normal, just with one smaller eye!
Mikan is the cuddliest hamster you'll ever meet. He goes still when you stroke his face. He enjoys falling asleep while being petted in his fosterer's hands, and will wake up to look up irritably as if to say "Hey! Why did you stop??". If you're sitting on the couch, he loves to climb up your body to reach your shoulders to bury his body into your hair, after which he will promptly curl up and fall asleep. He also likes snoozing in pockets. Since Mikan still has excess skin from when he was overweight, he is super squishy! His fur is also luxuriously soft.
Mikan can be a stubborn one, as even after weeks of training, he still refuses to go potty in his sandbox, preferring to go just outside his sandbox, or in a hideout in a corner of his cage. If you're one who spot-cleans regularly, his habit shouldn't be much of a problem. He also tends to pee on his wheel, if he gets too lazy to run to his toilet in the middle of an intense workout!
Luckily, Mikan enjoys running on his wheel, which is great for his weight loss journey. He even seems to prefer a 30cm wheel to a 21cm one! At this point, we think he's just a glutton for punishment...
Speaking of a glutton, it's not a surprise to see why Mikan got as chonky as he did: he LOVES food. He finishes his plate of fresh veggies by morning, and his foodbowl can be emptied in just a record 2 days! However, his family must not be fooled by his adorable wink (he is still on a diet, after all) and give him more food! Mikan also perpetually has food in his cheeks, making him look even larger than he already is.
Though cuddly after you get to know him, Mikan can be a bit nippy with new people. He's never bit anyone hard enough to draw blood, but watch out for his warnings. After he's gotten used to your scent, he will be as docile as a lapcat!
So if you've ever wanted to be like a Bond villain but with a hamster instead of a cat, Mikan is the perfect fluffy companion for you!
