No-bake Birthday cake (recipe)
Looking for a birthday cake recipe for your little one but don’t have access to an oven? Look no further!
This recipe is simple, easy to make, and the ingredients are easily available.
Do note that the ingredients makes for a pretty big cake (instagram-worthy!), we do not advise you to feed the whole cake to your hamster! a small slice is good as a birthday treat for them. (P.S, since the ingredients are human-safe as well, you can share the cake with your hamster!)
R.I.P Kira and thanks for being the best food taster ever
No-bake Birthday cake
1 cake (with plenty of leftovers)
1/3 ripe banana
40g flour
Milk as needed
1 tsp oil
1 tbsp of hamster safe red colouring
1 strawberry
1 sprig of thyme
Greek yogurt
Preparation
To make hamster safe red colouring, smoosh a small cube of beetroot with 2 tbsp of water. Microwave for a few seconds and set aside. Ideally, look for a 1:1 ratio of beetroot to water.
In a bowl, mash the banana with a fork.
Combine flour with the banana mash and mix until evenly mixed through.
Drizzle milk slowly until mixture turns into a thick batter.
Add red colouring to the batter until you achieve your desired colour. Mix well
Once the batter is ready, add in the vegetable oil and stir well. This prevents your pancake from sticking to the pan.
Heat up your pan and ladle some batter in. There will be enough batter to make 2 4-inch pancakes. (Just pick the prettier one to work with!)
Flip the cakes once the sides start to dry and change colour.
Cook until the cakes are completely cooked through and set aside to cool.
On a board, cut little hearts out of a strawberry, and reserve some of the extras to be chopped up for the ‘filling’
With your cooled pancakes, take a small shotglass or metal mold, press firmly on the cake to cut out little rounds. (You can make a 1 tier, 2 tier or 3 tier cake!
Spread greek yogurt on the top for the ‘icing’, fill with little chunks of strawberry, and repeat until you have enough tiers.
Garnish with little thyme leaves if you desire, and you’re done!
