Recommended Cages

The following cages meet the minimum space requirements for your hamster. They are readily available in pet shops and online.

Alaska (84cm x 48.5cm x 44cm)

  • Available in a variety of colours and reasonably priced.

  • Brand new from $68-$95, second-hand from $50.

  • Sources: Local online retailers - Taobao, Fatpouches Singapore, Carousell, Off-the-shelf - Petmart.

  • Suitable for both Syrian and dwarf hamsters.

 

Savic Sky Metro (80cm x 50cm x 50cm)

  • Quality material made in Belgium.

  • Wide-front opening cage door for easy access.

  • Chew-resistant, deep base.

  • Attached handles for easy transport of cage and secure cage door.

  • Fully accessorised with tubes, platform, wheel and  water bottle.  

  • Note: the 19cm wheel that comes with the cage is not appropriate for hamsters and it squeaks very loudly.

  • Brand new at $120-$160.

  • Size is suitable for both Syrian and dwarf hamsters, but a larger wheel is needed.

  • Comes in pink.

  • Low height cannot accommodate wheels beyond 21cm in diameter.

  • Suitable only for dwarf hamsters.

Hagen Zoozone 2 (100cm x 51cm x 37cm)

  • One of the larger options available.

  • Comes in blue

  • Brand new at $116.

Savic Rody Cavia (70cm x 45cm x 31cm)

  • Brand new at $50-$63, depending on the colour chosen.

  • Suitable only for dwarf hamsters.

IKEA Samla BOX 130L (78cm x 46cm x 43cm)*

  • Value for money.

  • DIY is required if a cage with ventilated sides is preferred

  • Lightweight, easy to move and clean

  • Brand new at $20 (box only) or $27 (box with lid).

  • Suitable only for dwarf hamsters.

* Listed dimension is 78cm x 56cm, however the actual base dimension is 68cm x 46cm.

IKEA Detolf Glass Cabinet (43cm x 163cm)

  • Reasonably priced for its large size.

  • Aesthetic look, and glass panes give good view of hamster activities. Blends well with rest of home furnishing

  • Generous area above recommended size. May even be partitioned into 2 cages for dwarves.

  • A DIY lid is essential if used to house a Syrian hamster.

  • Must be placed at a highly ventilated area.

  • Brand new at $89 with a $50 delivery charge (if needed).

CUSTOMISED ACRYLIC CAGES

- Can be customised into any dimensions and comes in different thickness of 3 to 5mm. Ventilation holes and lids can also be customised.

- Must be placed at a highly ventilated area - Allows an unobstructed view of the hamster.

NITEANGEL BIGGER WORLD MDF TERRARIUM

  •  Lids are included which prevents
    your hamster from escaping and allows you to pile on the bedding.

  • Allows (a largely) unobstructed view of hamster.

  • Ventilation might be an issue since the ventilation gaps at the top of the cage are the only source of air flow.

  • Self-assembly required.

  • Suitable for both Syrian and Dwarf hamsters

NITEANGEL GLASS HAMSTER CAGE

  • Allows unobstructed view of hamster.

  • Very sturdy and does not get scratched easily.

  • Must be placed away from direct sunlight and in an area with good air-circulation, as it can become hot in the tank.

  • Easier access to hamster as the cage has front panels which open outwards.

  • Able to opt for wheels at the bottom of the cage to facilitate easy transportation of the cage (for cleaning/ moving to a different location in your home etc).

  • Suitable for both Syrian and Dwarf hamsters

Aquarium Glass Tanks (90CM X 45CM X 45CM/ 3FT)

  • Size varies, and increases in regular intervals of 0.5ft. Minimum regular size is as stated.

  • Allows unobstructed view of hamster.

  • Very sturdy and does not get scratched easily.

  • Must be placed away from direct sunlight and in an area with good air-circulation, as it can become hot in the tank.

  • A DIY lid is essential if used to house a Syrian Hamster.
