James fought his wizarding war and came back with a badge of honor on his ear. A scar that will probably remain in his mind for the rest of his life. As such, he has trust issues and will need a loving and patient adopter to welcome him into the family. He is relearning now that there are good humans too.

James started his first month in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry learning how to transform himself to be a meerkat and how to cast spells to melt the hearts of the humans. He has since become the master of both. So be careful to guard your hearts and resist all temptations to feed him treats all day, whenever he casts the spells on you.
